As a non-political, volunteer-led organization, Spalding & District Civic Society aims to bring together individuals who care deeply about the character, vitality,
and future of our town and its surrounding district. Our mission is to champion thoughtful development, protect local heritage, and to encourage a greener, more vibrant
town.
We do this by:
- Monitoring planning applications and challenging poor-quality or harmful proposals.
- Collaborating constructively with South Holland District Council and other bodies, while standing firm when needed.
- Promoting the health and appeal of the Town Centre.
- Keeping abreast of the best practice in placemaking and encouraging its adoption locally.
- Encouraging the planting of trees and raising awareness of environmental conservation.
- Proposing ideas for regenerating neglected sites.
- Conducting surveys to inform and inspire local improvements.
- Reviewing listed buildings and the Conservation Area to safeguard our architectural legacy.
- Celebrating the history and heritage of the town.
- Running a blue plaque scheme to mark individuals who have made a significant, positive contribution to human welfare or happiness or have made an
exceptional impact in their field, the local community or on society at large.
