With the support of our partners, Transported Art, we are looking to commission two experienced artists to work with Transported to create the first two artworks in our MARK-IT Trail that will recall the livestock markets that took place on the streets of Spalding within living memory.
The first commission will be on the New Road/Swan Street junction and will recall the cattle markets that used to take place on New Road. The total budget available will be £44,000, including artist and specialist fees, travel, fabrication, materials, and installation.
The second commission will be on the Hall Pace end of Sheep Market will recall the sheep auctions, being the reason why Sheep Market was so named. The total budget available will be £24,750, including artist and specialist fees, travel, fabrication, materials, and installation.
In addition to these budgets, the partnership will fund Project assistants to help with all engagement and public activities, project management and evaluation and the unveiling.
The Artist will be expected to contribute to a public engagement programme, alongside Civic Society members and the Transported Arts Team, to make maximum value from the project.
The artworks will be sited in the centre of a busy Market town, so the proposed artwork will need to be safe and robust, and expected to last for 20 plus years.
For further information including the full artist brief and application information, please see the Transported Art website.
This part of the MARK-IT trail is possible thanks to the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, part of the government’s Levelling-Up agenda.
